The Natural History Museum of Funchal hosts the exhibition on the theme “Waterline” by Gonçalo Gomes, in a show that presents unique and exclusive images of marine biodiversity of the Madeira archipelago.
This exhibition is characterized by the use of new technologies with a series of video and photographic images in a project that meets the mission of the Natural History Museum of Funchal in the dissemination of marine life and awareness of the importance of ocean conservation and preservation of marine ecosystems.

ABM Madeira presents the concert “Fala-me de Música” – Duo Bandonica, as part of the 2026 season, featuring a series of performances across various municipalities of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

The project brings together mandolinist Francisca Abreu and accordionist Alessio Ferrari, offering the audience a borderless musical journey, where mandolin and accordion engage in a dialogue across different cultures, eras, and traditions.

A unique opportunity to enjoy a concert combining instrumental dialogue, emotion, and shared experience, promoting cultural accessibility throughout the region.

These concerts are held at the Holy Trinity Church and at Madeira Legislative Assembly.

Calheta Municipality Festivities

The Calheta Municipality Festivities 2026 will take place from 4 to 27 June, bringing an exciting programme of music, theatre, traditional celebrations and entertainment for all ages.

Among the events highlights are the theatre performances “O Que Tem Uma Mala?” and “Bom Filho a Casa Torna”, the São João Gala Concert, the colourful São João Popular Marches, and a spectacular music night at Calheta Beach featuring Matias Damásio, Julinho KSD, Amériko Nunez and Westside Live Band.

The festivities will also include performances by João Quintino & Banda and the nostalgic “Revenge of the 90’s” show, before concluding with a dazzling fireworks display.

The project showcases the work of naturalists and documentary filmmakers who have contributed to the study and understanding of Madeira’s biodiversity and ecosystems, promoting environmental literacy and the Region’s scientific heritage. The decentralised programme of events in seaside venues, aims to bring the public closer to scientific and environmental culture through the screening of documentaries, the contextualization of filmmakers and reflection on Madeira’s natural heritage.

“Opera at Pico”

Discover a new dimension of culture in the stunning Fortaleza do Pico with the “Ópera no Pico” cycle. Get ready for four unforgettable nights of music, passion and fireworks under the stars during the Atlantic Festival.

In this third edition, the event presents a diverse programme that journeys through the glamour of cinema, the great passions of opera, the lightness of comedy and the intimacy of lyrical song, bringing together outstanding performers from the Region alongside guest artists of recognised merit.

Among the highlights of this year’s edition is the premiere of the family-oriented production “The Enchanted Story of The Magic Flute”, on 21 June at 11:00 am, specially designed for families and younger audiences. Another notable addition is the Vocal Masterclass, organised in partnership with the Madeira Conservatory of Music and led by soprano Patrícia Modesto, taking place on 15, 16 and 17 June. The initiative culminates in the public performance “The New Lyric Generation”, on 19 June at 9:00 pm, at Fortaleza do Pico.

This extraordinary event promotes opera in a unique way, combining tradition and modernity to create truly memorable experiences.

Madeira International Fireworks Contest

The Madeira International Fireworks Competition comprises three pyromusical shows, which take place on the first three Saturdays in June and can be viewed, over 20 minutes, across the whole of the bay of Funchal. For this edition, pyrotechnics companies from three countries are competing: Canada, China and Ukraine.

The aim is to win the trophies ‘Troféu do Atlântico’, awarded by a jury, as well as “Trophéu Madeira Tão Tua”, awarded by the public. The votes can be cast in ballot boxes located in the Plaza Madeira shopping centre, at the Tourist Information Office in Avenida Arriaga, and also at the Funchal pier, the night of the show.

Let yourself be captivated by the magic of the Atlantic Festival’s pyromusical shows with the official soundtrack, broadcast live on 105.9 FM.

It’s 20 minutes of magic, light, colour and music.

The closing of the festivities will feature two shows: the first will take place on 23 June, on the island of Porto Santo, next to Vila Baleira´s pier, and the second is held in Funchal, on 27 June.

Porto Santo Municipal Festivities – Saint John’s Festivities

Saint John’s festivities are the biggest tourist attraction on the island, as they represent the genuine traditions of a people with their very own culture. They include various activities: the sports programme opens the festivals and the cultural programme runs from 14 to 24 June. A parade of popular marches takes place on the night of 23 to 24 June.

Porto Santo presents a wide range of entertainment and culture that will include the traditional St. John’s Altar, food and drink stalls and the typical delicacies of the festivities in Alameda Infante D. Henrique.

Traditional Madeiran Canoes: The Historic Crossing

The Cultural Association MaratonàDescoberta is promoting, on 19 June, the event “Traditional Madeiran Canoes: The Historic Crossing”, a unique initiative that pays tribute to the maritime tradition and nautical heritage of Madeira and Porto Santo.

The highlight of the event will be the recreation of the historic sea crossing between Porto Santo and Funchal in a traditional canoe. Covering approximately 74 km and expected to take around 10 hours, the journey will be undertaken by canoeists Carlos Lima and Miguel Figueira, with support from Filipe Nascimento and Cristiano Perestrelo.

More than a sporting challenge, this initiative celebrates the courage and knowledge of the island’s seafaring communities, while showcasing a cultural heritage that has played a defining role in shaping Madeiran identity.

The “São João na Sé” Festivities

The Municipality of Funchal is hosting the first edition of “São João na Sé”, an initiative that brings together, for the first time, two of the city’s most iconic traditional festivities: the Festas da Sé and the Saint John’s Altars.

The initiative is presented as a “fusion” of these two traditional celebrations, taking place over nine days, from 19 to 27 June, and transforming Funchal’s city centre into a vibrant stage for music, gastronomy, culture and community spirit.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy performances by brass bands, musical groups and university folk ensembles, ensuring a lively atmosphere throughout the event.
