The multidisciplinary ‘Misplacing’ project, featuring painting and video, by Hanamaro Chaki and Margarida Menezes, opens between October,4th to November,15th at the S. João Batista do Pico Fortress, in Funchal.
This project is inspired by the landscapes of Madeira to create a visual and sound setting for the story of two fantastic creatures who arrive here, one from the sea and the other from the air, bringing with them textures and atmospheres that blend with the harshness of the land.
The exhibition includes several pieces of mixed media painting on photography, as well as symbolic pieces that reflect emotions and the relationship between the protagonists. Using the mixed technique of painting on photography, it was possible to create a poetic, dream-like atmosphere, inviting viewers to imagine their own stories.
The video art, as well as the performance, reflect the sonoplastic narrative of these characters and their adaptation to the environment (space and culture), through performative language inspired by butoh, a Japanese dance genre.
