Wall of Hope

Symbolic construction of the “Wall of Hope” On Saturday morning, children are invited to place a flower on the “Wall of Hope”, in a symbolic appeal for Peace. Accompanied by family members, the little ones carry their flower, probably picked in the backyard of their houses, so as to fulfil this tradition which dates back to 1979.

Programme

09:30 – Gathering of the children in front of the Municipal Garden
10:00 – Departure of the Children’s Parade – Itinerary: Avenida Arriaga, Avenida Zarco, Rua Câmara Pestana, Largo do Município
11:00 – Symbolic creation of the Wall of Hope, pigeon release, followed by the children’s performance

Wall of Solidarity

At Avenida Arriaga Central Walkways takes place, the “Wall of Solidarity” is set up in a symbolic ceremony, where the beneficiaries from various social solidarity institutions come together to build a wall of flowers.
This not only adds an inclusive dimension to the event, but it is also evidence of the unity possible through solidarity.
To the sound of the joyful melodies of the São Martinho Community Centre Folklore, Cultural and Recreational Group, this wall becomes a powerful symbol of community and compassion.
Come and be part of this unique experience, where flowers not only serve as decoration, but are able to unite hearts in a message of solidarity.

Performances by the Flower Groups

The groups participating in the Allegoric Parade of the Flower Festival come to life, displaying dazzling costumes and choreographies.
This performance is a celebration of flowers, beauty and joy, embracing the public in a festive atmosphere.
Entrance to this performance is free but limited to the capacity of the location, therefore book your seat to witness this exciting show which transforms the Heliport, at Pier 8 into a stage filled with movement, colour and energy.
The tickets for these unique shows are free and will be available at the Tourist Information Office, located in Avenida Arriaga.

Flower Festival

It is undoubtedly the most emblematic event in the Madeira archipelago and also the most colourful. For several weeks, Funchal is filled with the scent of flowers and the joy of thousands of tourists who come here.

The construction of the Wall of Hope, symbolised by the placement of flowers by children, and the floral carpets that stretch across the streets are unique moments of this event.

This year, the Flower Festival brings something new: two incredible parades, on 2 and 16 May, with around a thousand participants of all ages, are the highlight of the parade of scents that enchants our main city.

And to further enhance these weeks of festival, the Flower Festival is brightened by a car parade, consisting of classic cars, which combine their incomparable beauty with the simplicity and charm of floral arrangements.

A mix of magic not to be missed!
