Madeira Classic Car Revival

This event, which takes place at Praça do Povo, from May 22th to 24th, is organized by Clube de Automóveis Clássicos da Madeira with the purpose of showing and rewarding the best and most elegant vintage and classic vehicles in the Region.

The Madeira Classic Car Revival contributes to the diffusion of the diversity and historical wealth of these numerous cars, in an atmosphere of great animation created for the occasion, delighting car enthusiasts.

Another component of this event is the “Dress in Period Costume” competition, an initiative that invites participants to recreate a historical atmosphere.

Step into the past—dress in period costume and join the experience!

XXII Rampa dos Barreiros

Organized by Clube de Automóveis Clássicos da Madeira, Rampa dos Barreiros is an historic controlled speed competition on a closed circuit, with an extension of approximately 2.5 km, starting in front of the Madeira Regional Assembly, along the southern lane of Avenida do Mar and ending next to Quinta Magnólia, in an event scheduled for the 24th May.

It was held for the first time in 1935, and as in past editions, the organization estimates the participation of 90 classic and antique vehicles.

Sixteenth Century Market

Machico hosts the “Mercado Quinhentista” between June 5th to 7th, the 16th-century Market”, an event that evokes the historical period of the discovery of the island, which has gained a prominent cultural status.

Organized by the Municipal Council of Machico and in partnership with the Elementary and Secondary Schools of Machico, this initiative takes place in Machico´s downtown at Largo da Praça, in Alameda Dr. José António de Almada, and offers a number of cultural and musical activities.

On 16 May, at the Fórum Machico, will be held the 18th Sixteenth century Colloquium, under the theme “Gentes do Povoamento: Ecos do Tombo”. This academic and cultural event encourages reflection on the historical origins of Machico´s community.

Classics at Magnolia

This exhibition sheduled for the last weekend of July is a great tourist value and a tribute to all those who contribute and are dedicated to the preservation of classic vehicles and to the assertion of this heritage.

In addition to its natural charm, the gardens of Quinta Magnólia present, once again, all the glamour of that decade, in an atmosphere plenty of entertainment, period-dressed extras, gatherings and automobile- and lounge areas.
‘Classics in Magnolia’ was born in 2020, associated with the exhibition ‘Recomposition’, which took place in the cultural centre “Quinta Magnólia – Centro Cultural”, alluding to the contribution that Madeiran sculptor Ricardo Veloza has left us. Having achieved, from the outset, a notable success, the event allowed the assertion of a new event in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

Ethnographic Village

Largo da Restauração This Ethnographic Village presents live examples of local traditions, crafts, food, folklore and two traditional nativity scenes, promoting the tangible and intangible culture of Madeira.

There are two types of traditional nativity scenes: the traditional~Madeiran one located outside, which represents the human and natural landscape with vegetation, terraces, valleys, ravines, little houses and haystacks; and the tiered one, with its characteristic elements such as the Child Jesus, bows, fruit, grains and bread, amongst others.

You can also order the typical wheat soup and bolo do caco bread, sold only for take away.

Columbus festival it’s just one of the many good reasons that will make you visit the so called “Golden Island”.

With a totally diﬀerent landscape, Porto Santo is known for having one of the most beautiful beaches in the country with its crystal clear waters and therapeutical golden sand.

Columbus festival recalls the Age of discoveries and attracts hundreds of visitors to Porto Santo. It begins with Columbus’ arrival on the island in the XV century recreating the atmosphere of that time.

This festival, created by the teachers and students of the local schools, entails drama scenes, acrobatics shows, juggling and constant animation in the streets of the village, following the dress code of the time. It is like travelling back in history!
