A documentary film dedicated to promoting the natural, scientific and landscape heritage of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The project showcases the work of naturalists and documentary filmmakers who have contributed to the study and understanding of Madeira’s biodiversity and ecosystems, promoting environmental literacy and the Region’s scientific heritage. The decentralised programme of events in seaside venues, aims to bring the public closer to scientific and environmental culture through the screening of documentaries, the contextualization of filmmakers and reflection on Madeira’s natural heritage.

Concert “Talk to Me About Music” – Duo Bandonica

ABM Madeira presents the concert “Fala-me de Música” – Duo Bandonica, as part of the 2026 season, featuring a series of performances across various municipalities of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

The project brings together mandolinist Francisca Abreu and accordionist Alessio Ferrari, offering the audience a borderless musical journey, where mandolin and accordion engage in a dialogue across different cultures, eras, and traditions.

A unique opportunity to enjoy a concert combining instrumental dialogue, emotion, and shared experience, promoting cultural accessibility throughout the region.

With crystal-clear waters, exceptional visibility, breathtaking underwater landscapes and a rich, vibrant marine life, Madeira stands out as a true paradise for sport diving, attracting athletes, photographers and ocean enthusiasts from all corners of the globe.

Organised by the Madeira Swimming Association (ANM) and the Portuguese Federation of Underwater Activities (FPAS), the Madeira Underwater Open is much more than a competition. It is a celebration of the ocean, sustainability, and the deep connection between sport and nature, projecting the Region as a world-class destination for underwater tourism.

Would you like to see a unique event which discloses and replicates the rich Madeiran traditions and gastronomy through the recreation of an ethnographic village? Then, head to the parish of Camacha.

The ethnographic display “Camacha de Ontem – Madeira de Sempre”, held on July 18th and 19th, allows visitors to experience the cultural traditions which are still strong and alive, from wickerwork, to agricultural activities, traditional costumes, folklore, pastoralism, gastronomy, as well as other popular ethnographic aspects, thus recreating the cultural richness of the parish of Camacha.

The Ethnographical Parade, which takes place on 18 July, at 5.30pm, is an event that contributes authentically to the dissemination of the town’s cultural traditions, which are portrayed by the six folklore groups and various institutions that organise this annual cultural event.

100 Miles- Historic Rally

The historical regularity race aimed at classic cars, “100 Miles – Historic Rally, is organized by Clube de Automóveis Clássicos da Madeira.

This race takes place along the winding roads of the municipality of Santa Cruz and Machico, through forests, slopes and steep descents, from the top of the mountains to sea level, along a circuit which is approximately 160 km (100 miles) long.

The Santafaz Festivities take place from 19 to 27 June, commemorating the anniversary of the town’s elevation to village status. The celebrations span several days and feature a varied programme of events held at different locations throughout the town centre of Santa Cruz.
This event features several national artists and lots of street entertainment. As usual, the Saint John’s Marches are also present in the festivities, with a parade along the streets of the town that attracts people from all over the island.

The Santa Cruz Cultural Centre – Quinta do Revoredo is a public space where various cultural activities are promoted. Quinta do Revoredo forms part of the Santa Cruz Cultural Centre, a public space that plays host to a range of cultural activities.
In this space various exhibition rooms can be found, as well as a plastic arts workshop, a photography lab, a library and a charming open-air amphitheatre. The mansion also has well-kept gardens, where the renowned dragon tree can be spotted, along with various plant species that bring a splash of green to the area. The Cultural Centre is the venue of choice for a group of regional, Portuguese and international artists, who use it to promote their work.

Carnival

Carnival is the frst big event in Madeira’s event calendar.
In all counties of the archipelago there are small parades and themed parties where everyone wears a carnival costume.

This event starts on Wednesday, before the “Entrudo” (Shrove or Fat Tuesday as it is known) and the fun goes on until the “Enterro do Osso” that takes place on the Saturday after Carnival day.
The biggest event of Carnival Season in Madeira happens on Saturday evening (Carnival Weekend) with the main parade in the streets of Funchal.

Numerous Samba groups parade in magnificent and colourful dance costumes. This is a real show of light, colour and music, that thousands join in to watch.

On Tuesday afternoon, you can also enjoy another parade, known as “Cortejo Trapalhão”, where comedy and satire are the main ingredients and anyone is free to join. Just make sure to wear a good disguise!
