Local Festivities and Popular Saints

In June, the festivities multiply throughout the archipelago.

The biggest celebrations happen in Porto Santo, Calheta and Santa Cruz, where you can witness the marches in honor of St. John.

In Ribeira Brava and Câmara de Lobos the feasts are a tribute to St. Peter and the popular marches are also a tradition. Hundreds of people join these marches, wearing the typical costumes in a bright palette of colours that blends in with the very typical paper balloons and basil plants.

You also need to make a stop and taste the delicacies that there will be on the restaurants tables by this time of the year – corn cobs, dried fish and the delicious tuna and octopus in vinaigrette.
