Eurico Martins was the Maestro of MMO | Madeira Mandolin Orchestra®, having been the fundamental figure for the growth and development of this Orchestra, mainly in the international context, and for the enrichment and preservation of the history of the mandolin in Madeira. He died in 2014, he was also the promoter of mandolin training at Recreio Musical União da Mocidade, an association he presided at the same time.
This concert is the well-deserved recognition and tribute that MMO | Madeira Mandolin Orchestra® makes the merit of this “parental” figure.
Recognized as the oldest and youngest Mandolin Orchestra in Europe, a distinction of relevance in a region of excellence within the European community, MMO | Madeira Mandolin Orchestra® will be conducted by Maestro André Martins and will present a unique and genuine cultural language through a rich and diversified repertoire, complemented with a program of classical music of the great and recognized classical works of national and international music.
A concept with affirmation and perseverance, which is the mark that this Orchestra has been developing in its cultural activities in recent years.
Involving young musicians and incorporating other instruments such as the Viola, the Bandoleta, the Bândola, the Bandoloncelo and the Guitarrom, this is our unique way of presenting and making known to the public this Madeiran cultural heritage, linked to music, and the artistic reality, and Madeiran cultural genuineness from the mandolin to the world, which represents us well in history and today.
