From 12 to 14 July, the parish of Caniçal will host the 6th Tuna, Skipjack and Seafood Festival.
The Tuna, Skipjack and Seafood Festival is a gastronomic festival that was born in 2016.
It takes place in the centre of the parish of Caniçal and is organised by the local authorities.
The aim of the festival is to honour fishermen and the hard work they put in at sea.
Caniçal is a fishing parish and the headquarters of the region’s tuna industry. Gaiado is a type of tuna traditionally eaten after it has been salted and dried in the sun. Seafood is equally popular in this small parish.
As well as good regional food, the three-day festival has a diverse programme with lots of entertainment and musical shows.
This year the event will feature regional artists, such as Miro Freitas and 4 Litro, as well as groups from the municipality: Banda Municipal de Machico, Tuna de Machim, MonteReal Band, Prestige Dance, among others.
This year’s headliner will be national artist Toy, who promises to entertain all those who come to the parish of Caniçal during the second weekend of July.
The nights will also feature entertainment from DJs Sil, Américo and Petter Nunez.
