Part of the Machico Triathlon Festival, a week that brings together various events organized by the Madeira Regional Triathlon Association in partnership with the Municipality of Machico and the Ludens Clube de Machico, the SwimRun is the most prominent challenge. The race is eligible for the SwimRun national circuit and consists in traversing the distance from Caniçal to Machico, in alternating sea and trail segments, in a fusion between open water swimming and trail running.
It is a physically demanding race of considerable duration, passing through places and landscapes that characterize and mark the municipality of Machico, such as Ponta de S. Lourenço and Pico do Facho.
