Tuna, Skipjack and Seafood Festival

From 10 to 12 July, the parish of Caniçal will host the 9th edition of the Tuna, Skipjack and Seafood Festival.
The Tuna, Skipjack and Seafood Festival is a gastronomic festival that was born in 2016.
It takes place in the centre of the parish of Caniçal and is organised by the local authorities.
The aim of the festival is to honour fishermen and the hard work they put in at sea.

Caniçal is a fishing parish and the headquarters of the region’s tuna industry. Gaiado is a type of tuna traditionally eaten after it has been salted and dried in the sun. Seafood is equally popular in this small parish.

As well as good regional food, the three-day festival has a diverse programme with lots of entertainment and musical shows.

The Madeira Wine Lounge, in Praça do Povo, is the ideal place for visitors to enjoy wine and gastronomy tastings, to the sound of different regional music groups. This location is divided into four specific sections: the Madeiran Wine Producers (11), destined for tasting Madeira Wines, liqueur and still wines; a section dedicated to gastronomy, where you can taste local delicacies; another dedicated to live music and DJs; and yet another section dedicated to masterclasses. The Wine Lounge aims at presenting the Madeira Wine Region to tourists and Madeirans, allowing them to deepen their knowledge on Madeira Wine and PDO “Madeirense” and PGI “Terras Madeirenses” wines (Madeiran White, Red, Sparkling and Rosés.

Living up to the fact that it is nicknamed the “land of wine” in Madeira, the Porto da Cruz Community Centre annually organizes the Grape and Farmer Festival.
This dynamic event seeks to value farmers, with the aim of promoting new ways of marketing and producing grapes, as well as sharing knowledge about wine production in general.
On the 5th and 6th September, during the grape harvest season, this parish with a strong winemaking tradition invites everyone to participate in the festivities which includes, among many others activities, an ethnographic parade alluding to the customs of Porto da Cruz.

Estreito’s Wine Harvest Festival

The Wine Harvest Festival gathers every year, in the first half of September, thousands of locals and tourists in the village of Estreito.
On Saturday morning, September 5th, the spotlight turns to Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, where the Harvest Festival takes place.
There, in a Madeiran property, the harvest will be carried out followed by an ethnographic parade counting on the participation of a vast number of folklore and ethnographic groups.
After the parade, the treading of the grapes is recreated, in a traditional winepress, with the free participation of those present under a festive atmosphere where there is music entertainment and regional gastronomy.
